Expressionist

Expressing nature in your own way

Pangkor Island's Ship (1980)

This is one if my dad's early work during his time adventuring with drawing skills and the greatness is you will always discover new feelings or things inside on every look into this painting.
Nowadays, photography is so advance that we can capture the beauties of nature but ones can never replace a painting.
Painting is a mixture of what the painter see and how he interpret in his own way, expressionism is displaying emotional rather than the reality.
There so many masterpieces out there like Edvard Munch's Scream, Vincent Van Goth's Starry Night are legendary examples for expressionist.

The Assam Tree 1983- Expressionist

Painted on a gloomy day in Taiping which is famous as the Rain town in Malaysia.

The Assam tree or better known as Tamarind tree which famous of its having pale yellow flowers and long pods with small seeds embedded in an edible pulp which is main ingredients of the Tamarind sauce prevalent in many Asia and South East Asia cuisine.

But this painting is about the soul of Assam tree in a gloomy day without sunlight, how it branched out seeking out for the Sun.
The leaves of yellowish mixed with green, old and young leaves interwoven strongly portraying the characteristic of Assam tree.
The darker green at the back providing a good contrast with a Turquoise color sky.

Every time whenever you look at it you see something different in it as if the Assam tree is alive.

TAIPING IN PAINTBRUSH:

Taiping Lake Garden, Malaysia,  my father eternal muse.

Born, raised and live in Taiping since 1951, nothing like the pictureque landscape of Taiping could inspired him, especially the ethereal beauty of Taiping Lake Garden. He deeply falls in love with the wayward cloud, the lush greenery of Maxwell Hill, and the breathtaking elegance of the Taiping Lake Garden.  Nothing could allow him to express his profound affection, untill paint walks into his life. It was 1966, in Hua Lian High School, Taiping.
